My Heart is in Bama....

So where have I been??  For the first time, it's not away being lazy.  Instead, it's doing something more worthwhile than I think I've ever done.

For those of you who don't know, my sweet husband Chad is from Alabama.  He graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2001 and has many strong ties to the area.  So a few weeks ago when the deadly and destructive tornados ripped through his alma mater, I sat in our living room watching the devastation on his face.  He looked so sad and helpless, like there was nothing in the world he could do but sit and watch his memories ripped away from him.

We were very lucky.  No one he knew was seriously injured but everyone he loves and the places he loves were affected.  And hundreds of miles away....what were we to do?

Not one to sit, I brought up the idea of a charity etsy shop.  You know, get other Etsians/family and friends who make things to donate items and then sell those items with 100% of the profits going to charity.  We were very lucky to have the United Way of West Alabama offer to take any money we raised and it started there.

So dear readers, Chad and I give you BamaHandmAIDE.  We're still taking donations and hoping to offer shoppers a WIDE range of items throughout the summer.  You can donate or you can shop...either way, what you offer will go 100% toward helping tornado relief to our southern neighbors.  I assure you, there is no such thing as better people.

We have a facebook page which will keep you up to date with new things in the shop and donation tallies:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bama-HandmAIDE/153317928067876
If nothing else, "like" it and tell your friends.

If you want to donate an item (handmade, craft supply or vintage) check out our blog for the specific directions:  www.bamahandmaide.blogspot.com

Emily Post said, "if you find yourself sitting in the hedgerow with nothing but weeds, there is no reason for shutting your eyes and seeing nothing, instead of finding what beauty you may in the weeds. To put it cynically, life is too short to waste it in drawing blanks. Therefore, it is up to you to find as many pictures to put on your blank pages as possible."
so be it.

Here's one of the fun things we have for sale.  Enjoy!
